Meet Sarah O'Connor

Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication Professor Sarah O’Connor initiated a Prison Writing course at James Madison University several years ago and began to see stories of people who had left prison and were making positive contributions to their communities. This led to her creating the Second Chances podcast, working with DigiComm at JMU, and winning a grant from the College of Arts and Letters to involve her current Prison Writing class in helping produce it.

ABOUT

Meet The 2017 Class

The James Madison University's DigiComm Consulting and a Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communications (WRTC) class helped develop this website for release. Students of the WRTC class were split into teams, and each team carried out a specific function. Research I researched potential interviewees and designed sidebars for the website, while Research II found photos and researched ways to promote and distribute the podcast. Documentation transcribed the interviews for the podcast, and Editing used Adobe Audition software to edit the podcast. Finally, the Website team tied all the pieces together to create the Second Chance site. DigiComm Media Fellow Danielle LeFrancois and Graduate Assistant Daniel Vieth worked with the class teams and provided technical assistance.
